Funding for college-based activities and events

Green Templeton supports students to organise college-based activities and events. The major part of the funding for these activities comes from the Annual Fund which is looked after by the Development and Alumni Relations Office. Through the generosity of donors to Green Templeton College, the Annual Fund provides financial support to a range of academic and non-academic related activities within college. Successful applicants are expected to acknowledge the support of the Green Templeton Annual Fund as appropriate, and will be required to produce a short report on their activity. This information will be used to inform donors to the Annual Fund of the impact their gift has made and may also be used for future publicity materials.

The next round of applications will be in autumn 2022.

Please note, if you would like funding for personal academic needs such as conference attendance, please use your Learning Grant allowance or apply for Competitive Conference and Fieldwork Funding.

Applying for funding or other support

There are two opportunities annually for students to apply for funding or other support to organise college-based activities and events – towards the end of Michaelmas Term and Hilary Term. We will let you know the outcome of your application within four weeks of the closing date (so well before the start of the following term). The activities can be run at any time during the academic year but need to be organised within the context of the GTC events calendar and we will only accept one application per activity a year, so please make sure you include your full proposed programme for the year in your application.

Academic activities and events

Students are encouraged to organise their own academic related events and activities in Green Templeton College. Limited funding (not normally exceeding £1,000 per activity) is available to assist with such events where there is a benefit to Green Templeton students. A request could range from a small one-off event, to funding or part-funding the set up of a larger, ongoing project.

Examples of previously successful applications are the Richard Doll Society, Sustainability Talks, Green Recovery Now, the Oxford Global Health and Care Systems Society, Human Welfare Conference, and the events on obesity, land transformation, racism as a public health issue, and more. Get inspired by seeing some of the past funded student projects. The Academic Projects and Events teams are happy to discuss your idea with you before submitting the form. It is a pre-requisite that you get estimates of catering costs to include on your application form.

Community, Social and Networking Events

We welcome applications for community, social and networking events This year we particularly interested in applications that develop and foster relationships with the local Oxford/Oxfordshire community. A request could range from a small, one-off event to funding or part-funding the set up a larger, ongoing project.

Examples of the events we have supported in past years include a Black Lives Matters dinner and initiatives to encourage widening participation in the study of medicine. The Events team is happy to discuss your idea with you before submitting the form and to help with estimates of catering and other costs that are a pre-requisite and need to be included in your application form.

Community, Cultural and Sporting Activities

We also welcome your applications for activities that are not linked to events, for example our wonderful Allotment Club or cultural and sporting activities. You can apply as a group or a team or on a personal level if you need support to make the most of an opportunity. Individuals can apply for a maximum of £200 for individual activities.
