DPhil Clinical Neurosciences
My name is Kayo, and I am a DPhil student in Clinical Neurosciences.
My academic background includes: a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Portsmouth, an MRes in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences from Imperial College London, and a summer-long Erasmus+ project at the University of Naples Federico II in Italy.
Professionally, I have held various roles in and around translational science, namely with Thermo Fisher Scientific and Amazon.
As a Black Academic Futures Scholar, I will be researching ‘why we sleep?’ and how this is controlled biologically. A better understanding of this will help promote a healthier management of today’s 24/7 lifestyle, and tackle the many chronic conditions linked to circadian rhythm disruption – ranging from cancers and metabolic syndrome to depression.
